Music lesson timetables

Concert Tour to Paris 2019

link to our blog here APS.music.blog

**AUTUMN TERM 2019**

Music lessons are now well underway for the term, with timetables available to download from this page.

Please note that most teachers have rotating lesson times, so students must check the time of their lesson carefully each week.

If you have any queries, please email me at sstephens@alexandrapark.school or ask your child to see me in the Music Office P7 any breaktime or before/after school.

Please note:

  • lessons take place on a rotating timetable throughout the school day
  • students are expected to make their own way down to the music department at their alloted lesson time, having informed their class teacher at the start of the school lesson that they will be attending a music lesson
  • we are unable to catch up music lessons missed by students as their teacher is here, ready to teach them
  • lessons missed by instrumental teachers are always caught up (or occasionally refunded)
  • music lessons continue throughout the afternoon on Student Progress Days (when normal school lessons are cancelled).  Students should attend their music lesson at the scheduled time on these days (but do not need to wear school uniform, unless they are also attending their parent consultation at which all students in Years 7-11 are expected to wear uniform).
  • students may drop off their instruments in the room where they will have their music lesson (on the morning of their lesson) and collect it on the way out of school at the end of the day.  We ask that students make every effort to take home their instrument on the day of their lesson, otherwise the teaching rooms get very congested!

We offer music lessons on a wide range of instruments from trumpet to drumkit, violin to saz. Around 250 lessons take place each week, with over 220 students learning an instrument or two in school.  If you would like to apply for lessons, please download the APPLICATION FORM below, complete and return it to the Music Office (P7) or via email.

Changing from Single Academy Status to Multi-Academy Status

The Governing Body of Alexandra Park School is considering a proposal to become a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). This is a relatively straightforward process since APS is already a Single Academy Trust (SAT).  As part of the decision-making process, the Governing Body is seeking the views of parents/carers and it will take these into account before a final decision is made.

The attached letter sets out more detail on the proposal and the attached Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provides further information.  In summary, schools and academies judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted Inspectors (as is the case with APS) are now responsible for taking a lead role and working collaboratively with other schools, providing support where necessary. APS already works closely with Haringey schools through its designation as a National Teaching Alliance School. The MAT model will enable us to consider what other collaborative arrangements we could put in place to improve and impact positively on educational experiences of a larger number of young people.

The Governing Body is committed to maintaining and continuing to enhance the outstanding work of Alexandra Park School.  The decision to become a MAT will not impact on that commitment.

The consultation period for this proposal is set out below

EventDate
Consultation start date
Friday 18 March 2016
Open meeting for parents/carers with the Headteacher and Governors
Wednesday 27 April 2016
6.30pm School Library
Final date for e-mail, written and website responses
Friday 13 May 2016

We look forward to hearing your views. You can give us feedback via the MAT Consultation feedback form (below); by e-mail to sdaley@alexandrapark.school; in writing to the Chair of the Governing Body c/o the Clerk to the Governing Body, Alexandra Park School, Bidwell Gardens, London N11 2AZ.
