Introduction
We believe the best place for students to learn is in the classroom with our professional staff and alongside their peers. At the same time, our responsibility for the continued safety of our school community during the COVID-19 pandemic means there may be times when students are not able to attend the school site for their learning. We recognise the continued disruption associated with the pandemic represents a challenge for all of us and we want to reassure students and families that our foremost priority will always remain ‘success for all’ through the provision of high-quality education for all our students at all times.
Where students are required to remain at home during the pandemic, APS is responsible for providing them with a programme of remote learning. Our remote learning offer has been developed in collaboration with Haringey Local Authority, The Board of Trustees, Senior Leadership, subject leads and individual teaching staff, ensuring our provision is both sustainable and equitable and that staff are trained and confident to deliver lessons using the remote teaching and learning strategies that work best in each subject area. Our approach continues to meet or exceed government expectations for remote educational provision, with our strong commitment to the success of all our students at the centre of our offer. You can find out more about how our offer meets or exceeds government expectations here.
We are proud of our evidence-based approach to remote education and, as always, we are keen to learn and improve our provision by drawing upon the latest research and the feedback we receive from our school community. Where students or families have questions or comments about our remote learning offer, we encourage them to take a look at the numerous resources we have created below as most questions can be answered by reading these documents. For questions or feedback not otherwise covered below, families can contact the school using rlfeedback@alexandrapark.school.
Remote learning programme
Teachers follow agreed Schemes of Work delivered as per the school’s normal timetable for both students in the classroom and students learning remotely. This ensures teachers set meaningful, structured and ambitious work that follows our planned and well-sequenced curriculum.
Work is provided during the timetabled period for each subject using the online platform Microsoft Teams. Students have been introduced to the platform in school and have had opportunities to use it from home to respond to activities set by staff. There are numerous guidance documents and information on how to use Teams included below. Students and families can also contact our remote learning helpdesk at rlsupport@alexandrapark.school for 1-2-1 guidance and support on setting up and using MS Teams.
When students are ill or self-isolating, but their lessons are continuing as normal in school:
- Activities and resources are posted to their class team on Microsoft Teams, as per their normal school timetable.
- Homework will continue to be set using the regular platform, Show My Homework.
Where whole classes or year groups have been sent home, or during periods of school closure:
- Teachers will deliver the remote teaching and learning strategies that work best in their subject area and for the topic being delivered, during the timetabled lesson via MS Teams.
- Teachers will post instructions on Teams before and/or during the timetabled lesson, which may take the form of written instructions, pre-recorded audio or video and/or live video lessons.
- Teachers will be available on MS Teams throughout the timetabled lesson, and may interact with students through video, voice or text and encourage contributions and questions in Posts.
- All remote learning will be delivered using MS Teams and separate homework will not be set using Show My Homework during school closure.
- In addition to live interaction via Teams during the timetabled lesson, students are encouraged to contact teachers by email or through MS Teams for support and guidance at any time.
- Parents and carers are asked to remain mindful that our staff will be experiencing many of the same challenges and disruptions families are facing during school closure, for example staff may be ill or involved in care of their own family.
- We ask families join with us in supporting our staff by proactively engaging with the FAQ and guidance resources below before contacting the school with questions about remote learning. Parents and carers should contact rlsupport@alexandrapark.school for any additional support accessing remote learning resources or using Teams and rlfeedback@alexandrapark.school to provide suggestions, feedback and comments in the first instance.
We recognise some students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) may not be able to access remote education without adult support and we will work with families to deliver an ambitious curriculum appropriate for each student’s level of need. For pupils with SEND, the APS SEN team and teachers are best placed to know how the student’s needs can be most effectively met and will provide the resources and adjustments needed to ensure these students continue to make progress if they are not able to attend school.
For all students learning remotely, individual student engagement with teaching and learning is monitored by staff and any concerns regarding student engagement are followed up with families by the Pastoral Team. When whole classes or whole year groups have been sent home, or during periods of school closure, daily remote registration sessions and attendance registers for each timetabled lesson are also used to support and monitor student engagement.
APS has high expectations of students and staff and remote learning is no exception. The Student Code of Conduct, Behaviour Policy and learning User Policy continue to apply to students learning remotely. Students are expected to be thoughtful and respectful with peers and teachers when learning remotely and all online activity (written or spoken) should be school appropriate. Further information on our expectations of students and staff can be found in the APS Online Learning Protocols and Remote Learning Overview below.

Using Teams and O365
Teams works best through the App. You can download it from the Windows App Store or the Apple App Store. If you're using it through a browser, an up-to-date version of Chrome works well. The video below should help you log in to Teams and O365. Please contact rlsupport@alexandrapark.school if you need any further support using or accessing O365 or Teams.
