Year 5 Physics Masterclass

We were delighted to welcome over 90 year 5 pupils from 3 local primary schools to a series of physics masterclasses.  The 4 workshops gave the students an insight into sound, electricity, forces and rocket science!  All the pupils had a great time and left feeling inspired about physics.  Many thanks to Rhodes Avenue, Bowes Primary and St Paul's for making it such a fantastic day.

Year 12 Trip to CERN 2015

From the 2nd-4th July, 26 APS students and 13 Fortismere students enjoyed a fantastic trip to Geneva and CERN. In what is always a memorable trip, three things stood out as extra special for me. Firstly the introductory lecture at CERN was given by an old professor of mine, Vincent Smith from Bristol University, secondly we were treated to a visit to the underground area of the CMS detector and finally a great moment when one of the Fortismere students said to me ‘Sir this is great trip, I don’t think Fortismere could have organised it so well!’ Great credit to both the Fortismere students and our own, everybody was focused for our experimental visit at CERN and enjoyed their time in Geneva.

Year 9 Physics in Sport and Medicine Day

Over 80 year 9 students and 25 students from Heartland High School took part in a Physics in Medicine and Sport Day held at APS.  The action packed day consisted of three different workshops involving: Investigating speed and acceleration using timing gates and calculating power during cycling, investigating the body using ECG, EMG and ultrasound machines and investigating aerodynamics of different bike helmets using a wind tunnel.

GCSE Science Live

On Friday 6th of March 30 year 10 triple science students had the privilege of attending GCSE science live at the Dominion Theatre London. They had a full day of fascinating and inspiring lectures from a range of well-known leading scientists who have all played important roles in making science more accessible and engaging for public consumption.
