Year 11 Bridging Guide

The purpose of this Bridging Guide is to support students in Year 11 with their preparation for A Level studies.

This booklet contains suggested preparatory activities for all the subjects offered in APS Sixth Form. The precise nature of these activities differs between subjects, but in every case there are a range of different tasks that students can explore in order to acquaint themselves with the content and the skills that will be required in different A Level studies.

The guides are not intended to be exhaustive, there will be thoroughly worthwhile means of preparing for each course that are not included here. The intention is to offer an accessible, varied and effective grounding for students before they commence a course in Year 12.

Students are advised to focus on the subjects for which they have received a conditional offer, but of course they are also free to explore activities in other subjects that interest them. One of the benefits of this guide is that it does offer an insight into subjects that that are offered to students in Year 12 but have not been available lower down the school.

The varied nature of the guides ensures students will all have access to varied and engaging activities.
It is important to stress that completion of the tasks in these guides, whilst highly recommended, does not have an impact on our admissions criteria, under which acceptance onto an A Level course is dependent upon meeting the published GCSE-grade based entrance requirements.

Year 13 Bridging Guide

The purpose of this Bridging Guide is to support students in Year 13 with their preparation for future studies.

This booklet contains suggested preparatory activities for all the subjects offered in APS Sixth Form. The precise nature of these activities differs between subjects, but in every case there are a range of different tasks that students can explore in order to acquaint themselves with the content and the skills that will be required in different subject areas in Higher Education.

The guides are not intended to be exhaustive, there will be thoroughly worthwhile means of preparing for each course that are not included here. The intention is to offer an accessible, varied and effective grounding for students to support the plans for further study after the completion of Year 13.

Students are advised to focus on the subjects that they have studied at A level and also those related to the areas that they intend to pursue in the future. One of the benefits of this guide is that it does offer an insight into subjects that may be relevant to further studies even though that students may not have opted for them at A Level.

The varied nature of the guides ensures students will all have access to varied and engaging activities.

Jack Petchey Awards Ceremony 2019

The ‘2019 Haringey Schools Jack Petchey Achievement Awards Presentation Evening’ took place on Monday 10th June 2019 at The Bernie Grants Arts Centre. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the achievements of students across the borough. The Jack Petchey Achievement Award is given to a pupil from each year who demonstrates enthusiasm and determination in lesson or outside of the classroom. They don't need to be the most academic, rather somebody who contributes positively to the school environment. There were 7 APS students from KS3,4 and 5 there to receive their awards.
 
Ms. Cannon was also present to receive her Jack Petchey Leader Award having been nominated by students at APS for her excellent teaching.
