Pompeii Trip 2018

Mr Short and Mr Bonham-Carter recently took Year 11 classics students on a very successful trip to Pompeii. Below are comments from some of the students involved:

The trip was relaxing but yet fast paced and energetic at the same time. We wasted no time in the beautiful ruins of Herculaneum and Pompeii and saw everything we could have hoped to have seen in the time we had. We also got an educational commentary on the sights from Mr Bonham-Carter and Mr Short who I’m sure had an insightful time also. Not just educational but also highly enjoyable as Naples provided us with the best pizza that we have ever tasted and a picturesque view from the Bay.Daniel, 11X

It had been a week of rain and gloom in England and I think just about everyone was missing the heat and fun of the summer, there couldn’t have been a better time to jump on a plane (albeit the crack of dawn), and fly to the sunny, beautiful Amalfi coast. The days were jam packed indulging in both the rich history of Herculaneum and Pompeii and huge amounts of pizza, pasta and ice cream. What's more we had the amazing experience of swimming in the Bay of Naples during a stunning sunset after a warm and chock-a-block day visiting Pompeii and the beautiful Sorrento. A brilliant weekend that made returning to the cold and raining London with tonnes of homework and revision just that much more depressing.Flo, 11X

APS student wins National Geographic competition

Our very own Anna Bauss (8E) was announced as the winner of the National Geographic Children’s Photography Competition.

Her photograph was chosen from more than 2000 entries, which makes this achievement even more impressive. Anna has won her family a holiday to Borneo for her efforts!

The judges commented on Anna’s entry:

There is beauty and joy in this image. It shows togetherness despite apparent difference. Add to that the perfect harmony of patterns and this photograph is a memorable masterpiece

Following her win, Anna commented:

I’m so happy my picture has been chosen. It feels like a dream! I took so many pictures of the Fodies that the camera ran out of battery. My parents were cross with me because we couldn't take any more photos that day...but they’re definitely not upset now that I’ve won!
