Year 9 Christmas Charity Project
Following the major success of our “Reverse Advent Calendar” charity project last year in which we collected almost 400kg of donations for the Haringey Food Bank, Year 9 will be undertaking another charity project in the run-up to Christmas 2018.
This year we are doing something a little different. We will be raising money for Mind in Haringey. The Year 9 students and Pastoral Team are aware that adolescence is a time when many people can struggle with their mental health. Unfortunately, feelings of anxiety, anger and sadness are all too common as are many other illnesses which young people need help and support to recover from. Mind in Haringey runs a wide range of programmes and sessions which aim to improve mental health for the people of Haringey and our students and staff would like to support them this Christmas.
We are asking each student to make a pledge and collect sponsorship for completing it. Pledges should be to do something which benefits students or those around them. Our theme is the twelve days of Christmas so they can pledge, for example, to cook 12 family meals in December, read 11 books, run 10 miles, visit 9 relatives, complete 8 extension or curiosity tasks, go 7 days without using their phone after 7pm… the options are endless!
Teachers or parents can then sign their pledge cards to confirm they have completed their pledge and donations can be made to the charity via the Year 9 Just Giving page (link to follow).
There is no lower or upper limit to what students can pledge or how much money they can collect; the idea is to do something as a school community which will, hopefully, benefit both our students and the wider community.
